An Exciting New Chapter
I've been a photographer for ten years.
That's crazy to type.
My camera has taken me to photograph weddings in different countries. My camera has brought me some of my most meaningful relationships. You've invited me into your lives to share moments of happiness, grief, love, and connection. I've loved every minute of that and, before you get too nervous about where this is headed; I'm not going anywhere. I just need to slow down and operate on more of a part-time basis, especially in the winter.
I was photographing a maternity session last winter when I realized I need to make some changes. We were outside by the lake, temps were below zero with wind chill, and I have Raynaud syndrome so my hands were completely white and in a lot of pain. I physically couldn't press my shutter and had to pause the session so I could go warm them up again. I had to do this multiple times and honestly, I felt really unprofessional. While I know there are things I can do to lessen these instances in the future, this isn't the first time I've had the thought that my body is having a hard time keeping up with the level of physicality this job demands. There have been moments over the last few years that have made me realize that I'm not sure I'll be able to sustain this long-term.
Instead of being too disappointed, I've decided to look at this as a positive opportunity. Maybe I'll work on offering more art prints and practicing my landscape work. Maybe I'll work with more local businesses to create images for their socials. If you've been following my personal accounts, you've probably seen that I really enjoy sharing my hobbies and projects, so maybe I'll bring more of that here and share that with you instead. I'm open to any and everything and choosing to approach this shift with a positive mindset and lot of excitement! What this will look like for you as clients: I'm hoping this change will be fairly minimal. The biggest difference will be that my winter availability will be more limited and scheduling during my busy season will need to happen a little further in advance. I'm not ready to say that I won't do any sessions in winter yet, but I may need to be more strategic about scheduling in cold weather. I'm going to see how holiday minis go this year, but I may also need to shift those to either a studio or schedule them in warmer months instead.
All of this being said, I'm actually so excited to bring you along as I see what the next chapter holds for me. The last ten years have been a dream, so here's to the next ten!
